SICK & MEMORIAL REPORT
April 3 was a sad day in the history of Council 6590 that was the day the Council lost of one of our staunchest supporters, Father William Gunther. Father Gunther was the pastor of St. Vincent Church for almost 20 years. He was a great builder: he built the Church, Office and the Community Center. In point of fact, it can be said that he built the St Vincent family. He was a generous and gregarious man who welcomed everyone, and was a friend to all.
On Saturday May 17, St Vincent's will host a memorial mass for Father Gunther. Archbishop Favalora will be the main celebrant, and the Knights of Columbus Color Corps will be there as well. The mass will be at 1:30 PM, and all the members of the Council are invited to attend, and pay their last respects to Father Gunther.
Please keep in your prayers, our Brothers who have been under the weather Andrew Menditto , PGK, FDD Carl Zimmerman Jose Marrero PGK Charles A. Rizzo PGK, PFN, FDD
KNIGHT OF THE MONTH
May- John J. O'Toole June - Fred Schweitzer
INSURANCE AGENT RPORT Robert A Bent
561-866-2820 robert. bent@kofc. org
We all know and appreciate the good work the Knights of Columbus does for the Church and charitable causes. But did you know that our insurance program is an essential part of the Order, and has been from the very beginning.
Protecting families from economic adversity has been a key part of the Knights of Columbus mission since its founding in 1882. Our founders "passed the hat" to support the widows and children of brother Knights who had died. We've grown into one of the largest individual life insurers in North America - with more than $65 billion of individual life insurance in force.
Moreover, contrary to some misconceptions, our insurance program is not directed in any way by a "separate company" and never has been. Our insurance is available exclusively to members, their wives, and their
dependent children. All field agents -including me - are themselves brother Knights. We all work full-time for the Order, serving the needs of you and your family and answering your questions.

On Tuesday, APRIL 15 we raised $148.11 at our fund raiser at WINGS PLUS on Sample Road in Coral Springs. I would like to extend my thanks to the Sister Columbiettes and Knights that attended.
On Saturday, APRIL 19 Marie Cascone, Jackie Fedak, Mary Kock, Linda Pietroniro and Sarah Suriano made their Major Degrees at St. Malachy's in Tamarac. At the same ceremony, we welcomed our newest member Sonja John who made her both First and Major Degrees. We added EIGHT NEW MEMBERS to our auxiliary this year. CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE.
Carmela Foglio, President of Southeast Chapter dedicated this ceremony to LUCILLE RATKOWSKI . Lucille went to Heaven in her sleep on April 1, 2008. Carmela requested prayers from all the auxiliaries for Lucille. Lucille was the founder of our "Spring & Fall Luncheons" and was very dedicated to the Columbiettes.
I attended the 30th ANNUAL COLUMBIETTE CONVENTION in Tampa, on April 24 and 25. The officers of 2007/2008 were reelected with the exception of Sentinel. Lucille Meyers of Southeast Chapter was nominated and elected by a vote of 38 to 18. Lorraine Murray who is now Vice President of the Florida State Columbiettes will be running next year for President. Lorraine was President of 6590 and I know alot of our members have known her for years. We pray for her election. Her husband Doug Murray, a Past Grand Knight of Council #6590 is now the General Program Director for the Florida State Council of the Knights of Columbus. He also is a long time supporter of the Columbiettes and is constantly praising them for their work. It was great to hear such praise. Supreme Council President commended all the auxiliaries for their great efforts.
Other noteworthy news from the convention there are now 32 auxiliaries in the State of Florida. These auxiliaries have raised funds and donated $89,489.59 to charities. Our Southeast Chapter 300 Club fund raiser donated $4,000 to the Florida State Council Columbiettes.
OUR NEXT MEETING WILL BE ON TUESDAY, JUNE 10 AT 7 PM
I WISH EVERYONE A BLESSED, SAFE AND HAPPY SUMMER

GRAND KNIGHT'S REPORT Ron Harper
954-471-6407 cassie59@iuno.com
Brother Knights as this will be my last column as your Grand Knight, I would like to recap the year and share with you some of my thoughts on our year. When I first became your Grand Knight, I had some ideas, hopes of some things to accomplish. Some we have done well and some we have started and need to continue with and some I have failed. However, I think the pluses have far out weighed the negatives, for that I am very grateful to each and every one of you in our Council.
There is no doubt in my mind that we were successful was the total support that all of you displayed, every time you were called upon you responded. We re-started our newsletter, developed our web site, had profitable events and supported St. Vincent and St. Luke Parishes and worked with youth in our area.
One of the greatest honors I have had since joining the Knights of Columbus was when I was installed as the Grand Knight of Council 6590. I have been very proud to have a chance to serve you, and it was only by the efforts of all of you that made it happen and from the bottom of my heart I THANK YOU.
CHAPLIN'S REPORT
Supreme Knight, Carl A Anderson, addressing the meeting of state Deputies said: "Knights have nothing less than a moral obligation to offer every eligible Catholic man the opportunity and the privilege of membership in our Order. Also, we must have a Knights of Columbus presence in every parish."
The presence of Knights of Columbus is not just appearing in colors on solemn occasions. It is more than that. It is an active participation in the parish life. In parishes where Knights of Columbus Council is already instituted, as is the case in St Vincent parish, where the membership is extended to other parishes as well, the Knights presence can be enhanced by establishing what is called the Parish Round Table program
Through the Round Table a council works closely with the Pastor the parish. Through this program the council makes the
tremendous manpower of the Order readily available to the Pastor to help him achieve his plans and goals. Knights who belong to this parish are members of the Round Table By means of the Round Table the local council can easily achieve a maximum level of service to all the parishes with which it is affiliated. The Knights of Columbus Round Table initiative provides the opportunity for brother Knights to support their parishes with the programs their pastors deem necessary.
The pastor of the parish sets the program or programs are already in place. It is simply a matter of going to the pastor and asking him: "Father, what can the Knights of this parish do to help?" The Round Table is to help and lighten, not to add, his work.
Every Council is provided with the guidelines how to set up a Round Table. I request the Grand Knight, with the help of his officers, to kindly establish the Round Table in our Council so that we can better
coordinate our services to the parish.
DEPUTY GRAND KNIGHT'S
REPORT Harry Placke
954-935-9965 plackeg@wmconnect.com Brother Knights it is that time of the year again. It is time for the members to step up and serve our council. All positions are open from Grand Knight on down. 6590 is a great council with good hard working people. I know that the upcoming year with the new slate of officers will be successful. As the officers that served under Grand Knight Ron Harper and behind the scenes, his wife Mary. Behind every good man there is a great woman. So thank you Mary. The nominating committee will be asking for new officers for the upcoming year. If you are interested in one of the many positions, please contact John OToole, Bill Ford or Harry Placke. God Bless You
CHANCELLOR'S REPORT
John O'Toole
954-345-8227 Johnio21@aol.com As the fraternal year comes to an end, we can all look back with pride on what we have accomplished this year. We have raised scholarships for
five young men who will one day serve the Archdiocese of Miami as the priests of the new century. We not only raised the money, but we presented the checks to these young men of God personally, in front of the Council so that we all met them, and they met us.
This year we also hosted a pizza party for the altar servers, and their parents, of both St Vincent's and St Luke's parishes. These young people assist our priests every Sunday, and enable our priests to serve us much better.
This year we also hosted a reception for the young men and women who received the sacrament of Confirmation at Saint Vincent. Bishop Noonan was at the reception, and praised the work of the Knights and presented the certificates and bibles to the students.
None of this would be possible without the hard work of the men of this council and our sister Columbiettes. I thank you all.
FINANCIAL SECRETARY'S REPORT
Fred Schweitzer
954-973-0454 schweit7.err@aol.com The year is quickly drawing to a close and a new fraternal year will begin on July 1, 2008. At that time the dues for the new year will be due and bills will be sent out. I hope that all the members of the John J O'Looney Council will help me in this chore.
